1952 Ford 8N / Kubota L2501
Hello to everyone. I joined here some time back but have never posted yet. I figure this is a good time to start. I stopped by the local Kubota dealer this morning and purchased a new L2501DTL with the pin on bucket and R4 tires. It felt like the right size for my chores. I usually run my '52 8N with a 5' bush hog brand finishing mower and 6' box-blade. The N grunts a little but will do the job ok. I also have a two bottom plow and 6 1/2' disc harrow for running over the garden area. I have gotten to the point (make that age at 59) of really needing a front end loader tractor. The N does fine for what I usually do but those are not really fit for a front end loader as there is no power steering, weak front pivot pin etc and will wreck the front on those. So I took the plunge to the Orange side. Supposed to be delivered tomorrow afternoon and I will post the requisite pics when it comes. I have 71 acres (Central Alabama) most of which was torn up by the F4 tornado several years ago. I need to get in there and work some more trails clear of debris as those little volunteer pines sure do take over where I don't want them too. I'll check back when it gets here tomorrow. Thanks. P.S.: the reason for my screen name is I do have a '66 mustang that I've restored, hence gwstang. :D

Thanks Dave. I hadn't realized that I joined back in 2009. About time I get involved in the forums.

Just looked on the specs for the L2501DT;looks like a real upgrade from the 8N.It should be able to handle your implements with no problem.
Congrats!

Congratulations.
Seems like every time I get to know the Kubota models, Kubota changes all the model numbers again. So I need pictures to know what you have.

Thanks, the guy called me this afternoon and the driver had gotten sick. He offered to bring it out at dark but I said no problem that in the morning was ok. He'll be here first thing.

:welcome:
To TBN GW. About time you spoke up. I have a brother-in-law up around Montgomery and a couple more up around Lineville. As you can see I am in Northwest Alabama because that is where the grandchildren are at. Our tornado past about 15 miles away and all we got were broken limbs and power outage for days.

Fellow Alabamian  It has always seemed to me that the largest tornadoes are usually up in the northeast part of the state. I think it's because the northern part is closer to the cold air mass that drops down in a front and hits the warm air. By the time the cold fronts get here, the Gulf warm air mass pushes back. We gets lots of storms/big wind but rarely an F4 or F5. Those things are ferocious and deadly. I had to get a titanium plate in my neck from being banged around. Not to mention a torn up house and destroyed property. Whats bad is the power is usually knocked out and you come too in the dark wondering what in the heck has just happened water is pouring in from the roof being ripped off and windows are blown out. Lots of debris in the house. We are thankful to be alive and well now! Some people on my road did not come out so fortunate. Amazing to see just the slab left where a house or church had one stood. I still find pieces of clothes/houses back in the woods when I walk around. I do get a little nervous when a big storm comes up!

Yes, 27 miles north, Hackleburg, AL was completely wiped off the map. Several died. I have pictures from a little later that day as I and others went to help.

Re: New guy/New Tractor/She's Here!

In all her unblemished glory!

She's actually pretty dirty now from scraping the drive and pushing over some brush. I do lose traction way before losing power. Also, I remember someone saying that the headlights are are pretty much useless when you have a front end loader....so true! Next up will be led's to mount on the roll bar. The spreader was free with the tractor purchase. I did put the 6' heavy box blade, that I already have, on before doing any loader work. I would just hate to go rolling over backwards/sideways, if the loader snagged on something that would not give. I have to get use to using the seat belt though. The old Ford 8N doesn't have all the new fangled safety stuff. Just have to use good sense on that one. Stuff does happen rather quickly though. :ashamed:

Congrats on the new tractor! I'm sure you'll find plenty of things to do with that front end loader.

Enjoy!
