New Gate

I'm slowly but surely getting my entrance together. You'll notice I have no straight down the fence line pix like Harvey, drilling in chunk rock on a muddy incline with a rented skid steer was a bit more of a challenge than I anticipated. That's my excuse anyway, LOL.
Here's the original and some of the progress, I still have to add the sucker rod on the other side and weather permitting get some gravel this weekend.

I like how you brought the gate and gave yourself lots of room to park off of the road. On my first gate, I forgot to set it far back enough for those times I have a trailer on the back of my truck. Seemed that every time I needed to open the gate, I stoped traffic with the trailer hanging out into the road.

The poles are 10' apart, I moved it up about 70', the old gate was a real pain due to swinging out in the middle of the road for access. I had to get it in pretty fast when we bought the place, so this new setup is a long time coming. Too wet for gravel this weekend so I may go up and finish the other side.

Looks good and sturdy, like Eddie said you can get off the road without stopping traffic with a trailer or checking the mail. Now you need to paint it and keep the sawbriars & poison ivy from getting a foothold.

I was curious, what type of welding machine did you use onsite?

Nice lookin' entrance, Mike. If I had come up to see you, I would probably have driven right by because I didn't see the gate I'm used to. Didn't you have to move a few rocks and cut a few trees to widen the entrance?

You are lucky you didn't try to drive up to your place today. It took me 2 hr 45 min to get to Grapevine from Sunset this morning. The first and last 10 miles were a breeze, but in-between it was 10-20 mph at best.

Note to self...Don't bring a big jug of coffee if you expect to be in traffic for nearly 3 hours.

I got a lot of looks when I got a new gate It was a 110 mile drive to the farm as pictured.

Not only did I unload this by myself, but I installed it as well. 16 footer.

Your new gate looks great!

Good tip about setting the gate back far enough so there is room for a trailer.

Yep, Mike, that looks real good. And Jim was sure right about driving today. It took me over an hour to make 4 miles to get across the Lake Lewisville bridge (8:50 a.m. to 10 a.m.). Lots of snow north of the lake, and almost none in Lewisville south of the lake. And of course, by now, it's nearly all gone out here, too.
