New F-150 Motor Lineup

Impressive, it will be nice to see what kind of reliability they get out of these engines. It's about time they dropped that anemic 5.4l V8.

It's too bad they couldn't stick with a single turbo on the V6 as sequential turbos build more heat and don't last as long when they are stacked the way they are. I bet that twin turbo will be about a $3000 replacement part that will need to be done at around 100k miles or so. I would rather spend that money on gas in a V8 or diesel...

Sounds kinda like what GM did with that Cyclone some years back. A friend had one. Fast... Twin turbo, all wheel drive. Not off-road type all wheel drive; canyon running twisting turny burnin up kinda "truck". Didn't last though.

I remember them but they made no where near the power this engine does. It was only 280 HP and 350 FT TQ but that was quite a punch in a small package.

Actually the first thing that came to mind for me was the Buick Grand National. That was one bad GM and only had a V6. I also remember some of the Subaru WRX's they had in the early 2000's. They were 4 cylinders with single and twin turbo's that made big numbers.

Thankfully! Read the specs on a Raptor, there isn't a stock Jeep that could keep up with it. Unless you're only concerned with the Mall Rating.

While we don't agree on much I can see your point. By the way I would love to have a Kioti so that's one thing we see eye to eye on.

I just came in from talking to one of my customers, a GM guy at heart.. He has been doing reading on the new Fords and is really impressed with both the F-150's and the Superdutys. He has had 2 F-150's, a 99 and a 06 plus drives a E250 for work and his wife drives a Lincoln Aviator so he is not against buying a Ford. Anyway, he made the comment that it will be interesting to see how Dodge, GM, Nissan, and Toyota come back at Ford. He also thought it was interesting that GM and Dodge have tried the displacement on demand thing for which he had one and is not a fan of, and GM has a poor selling hybrid version of the trucks and SUV's but the tow ratings are poor, around 6,000# max. He is really wanting to see what the competition has up there sleeves to fight back.

No. That 5.0 was a pushrod engine. The new 5.0 is an all new engine from FoMoCo with DOHC and 32V. Personally it would be my engine of choice in the new F150s--nothing fancy, just a naturally aspirated V8 with good hp and torque figures and a reasonable option price over the base V6.

is this 5.0 the same one they used in the mustangs back in 88-92? if so that's a tried and true powerhouse with unlimited modifications for power increases!

I only rode in it once. It would bark all four tires if you hit 2nd gear hard. That was like 15 or more years ago though. It is as truck-like as the Viper engine in the RAM-1500. Not made to haul for sure.

The Buick Grand Nationals are fast.

Growing up, my Dad had a CJ5 with the Buick V6(225). He put an Offy 4bbl intake, Holley 4bbl, Hooker headers, and a cam in it. That V6 really came to life; it was impressive the power it made.

Can just imagine with fuel injection, turbos, and computer control what the new V6 can make.

6 Cylinders often get overlooked. Another fast one was the Aussie Dodge Valiant Charger, with a inline 305hp Hemi 6 cylinder, triple Webers ect.

Let's see it on Rubicon... It's got an off road package, right
Again, go look up the specs for yourself. Its more off-road capable off the dealer floor than a Jeep Rubicon is.

Sorry, I was born in a Jeep. And have spent time hard rocking.

As much as I like trucks, Fords included, this pickup would not make it from the last dam at Loon Lake to Little Sluicebox.

I have seen a full size older F250 with lift kit running up there. He only started after his truck was in an accident; it was beat already. So the fact that he drug body panels thru most every part of the trail was not an issue. I watched him go thru Little Sluicebox; the sheetmetal just grated on the granite...

It aint just the Raptor. Any full size truck would be a recipe for disaster up there. Raptor, Power Wagon, et al.

I have had my truck off-road, and it did pretty well. Til the trail got narrow, or the boulders got big. It gets me out hunting. I no longer have the CJ5; I do not go as many places.

Ya aint gonna take a full size pickup thru Rubicon, Fordyce Creek, and a few others, without massive body damage.

Different kind of 4-wheeling...

That F-150 may be cute and "look" like an off-road rig but it's nothing more than a desert runner. You want an off-road truck that can do it all including rock climbing, mud running and still tow a heafty load then a Dodge Ram 2500 Power Wagon is the ONLY choice. Keep that toy Raptor on the pavement.
