There is always a lot of discussion here about rear mount vs. front mount snowblowers for CUTs. I just found this new product from Erskine, a major manufacturer of snowblowers. Erskine Rear Pull Snow Blowers

The information provided says they have been in design and testing for 5 years.

Still more costly than the old stand-by rear PUSH blowers, but not as expensive as front mounts that Erskine makes also.

Does anyone have one of these yet?

I have the conventional pain in the neck, back up to use blower for my TC-40D. My take on snow is that if it itsn't deep enough to keep you from driving through it then it isn't really deep enough to consider blowing anyway. And if you drove through it you already compacted the snow with your tires before the trick blower can eat it so it's defeating itself.

If I were going to purchase a different blower than the one that I currently own I would go the extra bucks and put it up front where it does the most good with the least amount of pain. That's just my opinion however.

Pine,

In Vermont, you'd be buried up to your neck if you didn't move the snow....I must move 3" or 3'. It accumulates here and must be removed. We might not see 30 degrees for 10 weeks or more during the depths of winter.

Jim my drive is long and gravel. I have found out through the years that the best technique in my case is to use the FEL and back-drag the first couple of snowfalls smooth and let them pack into the gravel and freeze solid. That makes a real good solid base for me to push the snowblower from then on and still not throw the gravel thats underneath the hard base for the rest of the winter.

I guess I just have trouble imagining a 3 foot snow fall and then having to drive through it in order for the rear pull snowblower to be able to blow it out of the way. It makes more sense for the blower to hit the snow before the tires have a chance to pack it down IMHO.

Hard to argue about the compaction. I would like to see one work.

We had our first snow last weekend on Halloween. Just a small flurry, but it is on its way.

They look nice. But their 60inch model is still $300 more than what I paid from my front mount. I suspect the cost of steel is $100 of that additional $300.

I have moved alot of snow and I have to agree with everything that PINERIDGE said. My thoughts exactly PINERIDGE!
I ordered a new 78" Lorenz 630 that I get to pick up this weekend. http://www.lorenzmfg.com/snow.htm. My friend has been using this model front mounted to his JD 4610 for 4 yrs. now and it just rocks! I will have mine on the back, but I'll trade a pain in the neck for a wiped out back any day. Now I cant wait for it to snow.

Sorry about the period pekabu, I did'nt see that. Yeah this thing is expensive but at least I only have to buy it once. I was really impressed with the design and qualty of the Lorenz blowers.

I have a very steep long drive, and it is essential that I scrape to bare gravel. I have used several methods and blowing is best over four inches. I have a hydraulic V-plow for my JD 110, and I am poised to buy a rear blower (pronovost puma 84). However, a few years ago I saw blower with replaceable impeller blades, esential if one scrapes to gravel. I can no longer find, or remember the manufacturer. Any body help me out?

thanks
