I should have added that it makes the sound when i don't touch the steering wheel; when i turn the wheel a little the the left or right the sound stops. Could that be as you suggest air in the system?

Well I'm going to hazard a guess that what you hear is whatever system these tractors use to protect the hydraulic pumps from cavitation in a low flow situation. In this case the power steering pump. If it’s a spring loaded diversion valve your tractor may not make enough pressure or flow to lift it cold and/or the flow is sufficiently reduced to keep the line quiet. Once you’re warmed up you get the noise and then when you move the wheel the flow is diverted to your steering rack so it goes quiet. Just my guess. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
