HELPPPPP!!!!!!

We just got a new computer, and I can't get the screen to look normal. It only covers half of the monitor. Here's a link to it if this will help you understand what's going on Half Screen

I know I need to adjust some settings, but I can't figure out which ones.

I'll bet you guys will know right away. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Oh yeah - there's another thing. There are no lines separating the forums or even the colors that I used to have. All of my preferences are the same as they were before, so maybe they'll come back when I can get a full screen again.

And if it makes a difference, the same thing (half screen) happens with my other most frequently visited site, The Golf Channel. So I know the problem must be in the display settings, but I've tried changing everything and nothing has worked.

Thanks again for any help! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Uh, O.K. How do you do that?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

you should be able to right click on the screen then navigate to settings and re-do them

Right click your desktop screen. Click properties. Click the settings tab upper right side. Go to screen resolution box on the left and move the tab to the left. Click on apply. When the screen comes back up it will say Save settings? Click yes. You can make the screen whatever size you like by moving the tab over to the left.

Uh Oh. Now I'm in trouble. There is no Settings Tab. There is only 1 tab, and that says General. There is no Save As... or even Save.

Now what?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

O.K. I don't know if this will work, but I'll try. I went to File and did a Save As... I'll see if it attaches. I had to save it as a HTML file. Will this work? We'll see.

NOPE! The extension has to be a graphic extension, and there were no graphic extensions offered when I saved it. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

What version of Windows are you running?????

Larry,

That didn't work either. When I right click, I can go to Properties, but when I click on that, the screen with just the General tab opens. There were no settings listing to choose from.

We're running a brand new version of Windows XP on a HP computer.

Go to your desktop screen and right click a blank area. You should be able to do as I described. I have XP on my machine also. Unless of course HP has put some stupid thing in there to change it. The box that appears should say "Display Properties" at the top.

Jim,

I've clicked on both blank areas AND text areas, and it makes no difference. I still do not get a Settings tab when I open Properties. I just have the General tab.

I get that if I go to My Computer and then Display. I haven't seen that screen come up from within TBN with any of the stuff I've been trying.

Is that where I would adjust settings to change this screen? I've checked out all of the tabs on the Display page, and nothing changed.

You can change the settings from display. You cannot change anything if you have TBN up on your screen. You can change it if you icon TBN to the taskbar by clicking on the left side tab on the upper right hand corner of your screen. You can also go to Start, My Computer, Change Settings and follow the rest of what I wrote out. Your description of tabs does not sound like XP.

Sorry Jim, nothing. When I click on Control Panel, I then need to click on Display. Once at Display, the Apperanaces is a separate tab from Themes. I tried changing both with some of the options that were given, and nothing worked. And I didn't even see anything that said Screen Resolution.

Do you have XP Proffesional??????? If so you may not have the authority to change the settings. Only the Administrator can do that. You will need to log on as Administartor to change the settings.

No, we have the XP Home Edition.

I did minimize TBN and then tried changing the Appearance and Theme tbas. Nothing seemed to make any difference.

This is frustrating, because I remember having to do this a few years ago with another computer, and it was a snap.

I also recall that someone else here on TBN had a similar problem not that long ago, but I haven't found the thread yet.

That is the same program that I am running. You should get the same screens that I get. I cannot get the screens that you are getting. I will try to mess with mine to figure out why you are not getting the same screen that I get.
