I just finished putting a new clutch in my Ford 4600. First tiem to replace clutch and first time to split a tractor.

I have ran out of pedal adjustment and still can not get the clutch to disengage. The tractor has a single clutch with independent PTO.

I had the flywheel machined.

Should the new clutch need to be adjusted? If so how do I go about it? I have the shop manual but it shows it being done on a bench. How do you determine how to set the fingers? How do you turn the nuts as they have been smashed into the slots?

Any ideas before I split the tractor again?

May be a dumb question to ask but when you replaced the clutch did you install the new clutch disc correctly. There should be a tag or stamped flywheel side on the disc.
I guess you checked the clutch linkage and whether the linkage is pushing on the throwout bearing. Not much else it can be except for worn linkage and pivot points.
All the above is assuming you have a mechanical clutch and not a hydraulic one.

Both came from New Holland although box says CNH on it. Started tearing it back down. Going to double check everything. I don't remember seeing any kind of tag indicating which side towards the flywheel.
Yes mechanical clutch.

I drilled out and made new pins for the linkage as it had more play then I liked.

If you didn't see a tag then it will be stamped on the metal where the the springs are "flywheel side".

If you throwout bearing rides on a cross shaft, Make sure it moves properly at the pivots and grease the fittings.

I put it in backwards and that mistake is going to cost me a new clutch disc. It was marked, but they could make it a bigger print! It broke a tab off that holds one of the springs. Not thinking it would be repairable.

How much should the finger move when I tighten down the bolts?

If the disc is still good and you have a mig welder you can tack the tab back on to hold the spring. The tab just keeps the spring from falling out. If not just replace it.
Once you put the new disc in and reattach the pressure plate, when you tighten down the bolts the fingers will move in to some degree (maybe up to 1/4 ") as the disc and pressure plate are tightened against the flywheel.

Thanks for the help! I do have a mig and thought about welding it back on, but the disc look bent as well. Not going to chance it. Have one on order.
