Kubiota L4740-3
Been lurking for some time and we're just about to take the dive. Poor lawn tractor needs to go back to tracting lawn, and I need to quit digging post holes by shoulder.

Anyways quite close on a few HST 4wd tractors. Will be starting with QA frontloader only, no cab, no extra remotes, no mid PTO, ind. tires, etc. etc.:
- Kioti DK50 HST (quoted $23486)
- NH Boomer 50 (quoted $24379)
- Kubota L4730 (quoted $27400)

Wifey likes the look of blue, but I surprised myself with the Kioti today. Just 1 or 2 more dealers to check out.

Thanks all, for all the info!

Why are you going with such a large tractor. Approximately fifty horsepower is a big step up from a lawn tractor. I would look at a 3540 Kubota, but I don't know what your needs are.

50 hp is a lot, but for 11-20 acres as his profile says he has, maybe it would work well. Please let us know what your specific needs for the tractor will be, we love to help other guys, ESPECALLY NEWBIES, spend their hard earned money on what WE think they should buy. Welcome to TBN...you couldn't find a better, or possibly more expensive site, to help you narrow your purchase down.

Appreciate the advice! I suppose it would've helped to explain what I'm hoping to do with this machine rather than elude to a replacement lawn tractor!

The lawn tractor comment was a bit of a joke - we're pretty resourceful with it and a trailer plus our F250. But we've been on this land for a year (up from 5 acres in FL), and have been finding ourselves wishing we could do the following with more ease (and without calling in favors):

- Maintain about 1/4 mile gravel driveway (can't forget the snow removal)
- Build a dressage arena (not terribly hilly terrain)
- Move round bails (yes I have been rolling them by hand for some time!)
- All the routine pasture/field maintenance
- Moving shelters, RR ties, trees, etc.
- Post holes and/or post pounding.

In the next few years (e.g. after the tractor is paid for!!!) we'd also like to start baling ourselves. We have 8 acres dedicated to hay in addition to pasture, which we have cut and baled for us. Like everything, I've been hearing different opinions on HP required for this but after talking to dealers and tractor-owning friends 50 seems like a doable number for small balers.

Thanks again for the input,

Jeff

I really wish I could advise you more about what to buy, but your intended uses are not tasks I have any experience with..except seasonal snow removal. Sorry I cannot be of more help.

Also checked out Mahindra today. Stout machines, no doubt, but the price was quickly creeping back to $30k in the 50hp range (quoted $29,963 for the 5035). Nice dealer but only one close, and that price makes it a tough sell. Claiming 5,389 pounds for that 5035 though - that's seriously a beast and a half.

Still narrowing in on the Kioti DK series and L4x40 series...
