If those are standard cutting teeth, I think they make non-serrated teeth as well, if the mounting hole pattern is the same. Still, the serrations might keep the brush from being expelled from the converging "V".

This is a picture I took of the gathered up material, after my twenty minute test, to send the vendor and try and determine what happened.

I had only cut one of the largest and mostly smaller stuff.

I'm guessing that the serrations greatly help cutting heavier stuff and do help keep lighter stuff from escaping. But what good are they if they last only minutes?

With dense foliage, it's actually quite hard to even see what you might be getting into.

I would like to find a solution, because this cutter would be VERY useful. One problem I found cutting along roadsides was the ability to keep it at proper height with varying terrain and roadway. To make matters worse, the aux circuit stops when I operate loader boom or bucket.

Another possibility is that the serrations didn't break off in the heavy brush directly- maybe the teeth deflected enough in heavy brush to interfere with the opposing set of teeth. Each tooth could flex individually or the whole sliding fit could have too much clearance. We can only guess from pictures.

I wonder if you can reach someone at Ventrac to pick their brain on their selection of knives for their sickle. I have a cell phone number of some key guy at Steiner (Schiller) that I can call. How weird and wonderful is that in this day and age?

I would pay more for knives if I could get them to do double duty (grass and limbs) and last a while.
