Hello,

I just took delivery of a new B3030 last week. However, after only a couple hours of use I noticed it was dripping a little oil on the floor after I parked it. I traced the leak to the small hole at the bottom of the starter motor.

So, it seems to me that engine oil must be getting into the flywheel housing through the rear crankshaft seal or perheps the bearing gasket, and then leaking out of the starter motor.

One thing I noticed was that there is some kind of gasket sealant (painted gray) where the starter motor is bolted to the rear engine plate. Is this normal? I would not expect a gasket at this location. The reason that I ask is that the tractor was delivered with 1.5 hours and I was wondering if this indicates that the leak was known and not fixed correctly.

The dealer is picking up the tractor today and I want to have a good understanding of where the actual leak is. I think that the leak from the starter motor is just a symptom of the real leak around the crankshaft.

Also, I checked the oil level and it is not overfilled. If anything it seems to have dropped slightly after I used it for about 4 hours this weeked laying 70 feet of drainage pipe.

thanks in advance,
Vic

Well the dealer looked at my tractor and confirmed that the crankshaft seal was leaking. It will take them another few days to replace the seal. He said that he has never seen a bad seal on a B3030 before.

At least they offered to deliver a tractor I could use this weekend.

I've never seen or heard of it either.

Well, my new b3030 is still at the dealer, but I've been using a b21 that they let me have while mine is being worked on. The service manager didn't like the way the end of the crankshaft looked and so Kubota is sending out a new engine.

It's been over two weeks already, but I'm very happy with the dealer. They provide free trailering for warrenty work, and I didn't have to ask for a loaner while mine is in the shop. They offered one once they realized the tractor wasn't going to be fixed in a day or two.

I never properly introduced myself. This is my first tractor, although, I've rented a couple of times to put in a lawn. I've gotten a lot of good information from this site. I've taken down about 20 small trees, 4" - 8" diameter trunks and 50' to 60' tall, with the backhoe on the b21 using the technique I read about on this forum. I really prefer this method to felling them with the chainsaw.
