I recently purchased a 955 to replace my 755. I wanted to be able to keep my backhoe but wanted more hp.

Someone had the idle adjusted to 1,000 rpm, so a lot of things are loose. The tach works, but I didn't look to see if the hour meter was moving until the end of the test drive. It is stuck at 879.1 hours. The engine starts and runs well and has no blow by. The oil is clean. I started fixing the sticky pedals. It sat outside for some of its previous life.

Tomorrow morning I am going to start the power beyond swap. I am really looking forward to tearing two tractors apart.

The hard to grease lower bucket pins were bad so I swapped the loaders out at the rear pins.

My 755 came with two decks when I bought it. It also had some extra mounting hardware. The front mower mount is different between the 755 and 855/955. I will need to get a new driveshaft or have mine lengthened.

It also will need new front wheel bearings in the future. I fixed those on the 755 last winter and the parts were around a grand.

I think I will be looking to trade the r4s for some turf tires.

I will be putting the 755 up for sale once I swap the power beyond and clean it up.

Do you have the tall ROPS on the 955? Running a backhoe on the 955 with the standard ROPS sucks unless you're really short.

Changing the length on the mower pto shaft is easy utilizing a cutoff saw and a welder. Just be sure to keep opposing u-joints in phase(time)

I'm also curious about your "wheel bearing" replacement. I replaced the final drive bearings on my 955, but it didn't cost anywhere near a grand.

I am not sure on the ROPS they appear to be the same height. I'm six foot and I haven't hit my head. I will have to look up the spec on how high it is. They both barely fit through my 7 foot garage door.

I made a driveshaft for my Toyota rockcrawler. That was all low speed stuff. If I lengthen this one, I want to take it somewhere to get it balanced.

When I did the 755 I had to replace every bearing, seal, washer, and two gears in the hubs. I will have to check the hub play on the 955. The 755 had 1/2 to 3/4 inch up and down play on the spindles. If the 955 just needs final bearings I'll get them ordered before everything else gets wiped out. Thanks for giving me some good news. I talked the guy down a grand from what I would pay for this because of the cost of parts.

I am not sure how much I will get done today. A friend is on his way over to help me on my pole barn. I was trying to put the ceiling metal up by myself and it was not very time effective. Its 40 x 64 x 16. The sheets are 20'. I got two sheets up and two pieces of insulation in an afternoon.

You can waste your money having the pto shaft "balanced" if you so chose but it's not necessary at pto speeds. I've altered several pto shafts lengths with no balancing and no noticeable vibration.

Jim I was figuring my mid pto runs at 2100 rpm and my truck runs down the highway with a driveshaft rpm 2000 to 2500 depending on the speed limit. I will do my best to get it square with good welds and see what happens. I am glad that there are intelligent people offering their help here on this site. I would have sent it off without a second thought. I guess that's why there are not little weights welded to the factory shaft.

My dad came to visit today, so I didn't get much done on the tractors other than pressure washing and taking off the fenders. The previous owner sprayed the tractor with fluid film. I am not sure what that is other than a light weight oil. Less than an hour of brush hogging had the tractor covered with grass particles.
I would suggest it for long term outdoor storage but nothing else.

If there is more interest I can post more pics of my barn build. I have been working on it since the July 4th week when I started cutting down trees to make room.

My mistake as I didn't know the CUT mid pto spun that high rpm's.

I think someone used lock tight on the plug that covers the diverter. I tried to put some heat to it, but I had no luck. I didn't want to overdo it and mess up some o rings. I put some WD on it and I will try again later. I have been breaking all my 6mm allens even my 3/8 drive one. I thought the impact might help move it, but it is stuck. The one on the 955 has thread sealer on it and it is free.

If I can't get the diverter out, I am going to have to buy some hoses and fitting to loop it or make an aftermarket power beyond.

Do you have a MIG welder?
