( We will have to stay in touch. I put in my order for a new 5105 yesterday. Am expecting delivery in three weeks.

I am getting the loader, joy stick, bale spear, and fixed pallet forks. This replaces a 1960 MF Deluxe 35.

Do you have the loader, and if so, how does the shuttle perform in loader work?

I don't have the loader but I do have the joystick and mid remotes for the loader.

If you will do any bush hogging, you will need to put an armor plate below the gas tank. Careful of that left step also, it is not protected in any way, and can damage A LOT of sensitive electronic stuff it you hit a stump.

Overall, I am happy. But I wish I had upgraded tires to 16 by 28 instead of the 14.9 by 28.

yes sir, white smoke. different amount every time. I don't know if there is any relationship between the grade of fuel (regular /off road) or what. May also be related to outside temperature. This is really a question for a JD insider to give us the real scoop (or blow the whistle, haha) if he will.

I have heard from many sources that the white smoke is normal. I hve my doubts. Just because all the new JD engines smoke don't make it right. Maybe they are all defective, I dunno. The explanation that they all have a defect is just as plausible as they all emit white smoke normally.

What years are the smokers? Are they the newer emission engines or the old tried and true 3 cylinders?

Mine is an '05..Bought in August..Now has 31 hrs on it..I get blue/white smoke..Complained to local dealer and they came out with a special device to check to see if injector pump was in time with engine..The norm for this engine is 6.8..Mine was at 7.3..There is a +/- of 1%..They said it was within specs and I didn't have a problem and that is was just the nature of the new engines..Does not smoke once operating temp is reached..

OK, I just went to the JD site and I see that they are still using the 3 cylinder in the 05 series. The 25 series is getting the 5 cylinder emissions models. So I was confused and I am also at a loss as to the smoke issue. White smoke cold, but no smoke hot. Interesting...

Yea, My new 5205 is a major smoker, but only when cold and only on start-up. Had a repair tech out last week (leaky front hub seal) and he said it was because when it is doing a cold start, the computer advances the timing and then backs it off as the engine warms up. That seems like a good explanation and fits the way mine smokes. But man, it really lays out some nasty stuff when it's cold.

Just thought I'd ease all of your minds, here-

this is direct from the John Deere DTAC (Dealer Technical Assistance Center)-

Complaint or Symptom:
Tractor emits white smoke at startup. Engine will smoke 20 to 30 seconds after start up then smoke will clear up.

Problem or Situation:
Timing has changed from previous models to meet Federal EPA emission standards.

Solution:
White smoke at startup is normal on tractors with Tier I and Tier II emission compliant engines and can occur for a period of 20-30 seconds after cold startup. Fuel injection pumps (FIP) on emission compliant engines have light load advance (LLA) and cold start advance (CSA) features which overcome negative TDC timing in light load/cold start conditions.

And I thought I was going to need a new flux capacitor! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
