J.D. 4310 E-hydro
I have recently bought a new 4310 ehydro ( Nov. 2004 ) with a 430 FEL, 48 backhoe, pallet forks and R-4's.

It's a great machine, and all the info I got from these forums helped convince me that this was the right machine for me ( actually bought the 4210 first, used it for a weekend, called the dealer on monday and asked if I could trade up to the 4310, no problem got full credit, just cost me about $1,200. more ) what I'm concerned about is I see there is a totally new front end loader style out now (sx300?, 300cx?) and I'm thinking would I have been better off waiting an extra month or two to get the latest design, though I didn't know it was coming out.

Does anyone have info on the new loader style? Is it better than the 430? Does it mount on the same posts as the 430? Does it have greater lifting capacity? etc.

Also is there an info page on uploading pictures to this site.

thanks, John

I haven't ran the numbers to compare the lift capacity of the 430 vs the 300 series loaders, but I can tell you that they do take a different mount.

John,
Study the specs carefully, the latest and greatest isn't always
the best in terms of performance. I think I remember seeing some specs on the 430 actually outperforming the new 300 loaders.. depends on what's important to you I guess...

Only have the literature specs for the 430, but the 300CX appears to be somewhat superior in most every category except loader raising time, and reach.

Lift at pivot pin max ht is 1598 for 300CX vs 1261 for 430.

Rollback is 31° compared to 23° for

Raising time 3.56 vs 2.9

Lowering 2.1 vs 2.4

Reach at max ht 22" vs 26"

Dump time 2.96 or 1.21(regen) vs 1.6 (assuming regen)

Nothing earth shattering, but the extra capacity, and more rollback angle are nice

I've seen the 400X vs 460 loader has a much different performance rating, with the 460 actually outperforming
the 400x in many cases. With the 300 vs 430, you're right, there aren't too many areas the 300CX doesn't outdue the 430, except a couple that may not affect most users work. The 300X doesn't perform like the 300 CX, probably similar to the old 420 vs 430 specs..

I'd take it as the 300x compares to the 420, and the CX compares to the 430.

I've been using a 4310 with 420 so things can only get better when mine is finally ready...

Thanks everyone for the responses,

Now I'm a little upset with my dealer since it looks like the 300 series loader was available at the time I bought my new 4310 ( Nov. 05 ) , they never mentioned it even when I questioned the way the 430 mounted on the posts, just didn't look real secure to me. though I have been using it without any trouble (only 20 hours ) mostly in the snow with the loader.

Do the 300's mount on the same posts as the 430 ? just thinking like the guy in one of the posts that Mike put the link up to about upgrading to the 300cx, If the dealer would do that ( already swapped a 4210 for the 4310 without any trouble ) it would be nice to have that greater lift capacity and the bottom of the loader masts look like they wrap around the mount posts for a more secure connection.

It's either that or look into the shim kit to boost hydraulic pressure, But I don't want to start that whole debate again as I see by the post archives that issue was discussed at great length already, seems like a good idea to me.

Thanks again, John

It looks to me like they are same but different. The "400" units have a square post where the newer "300" units have a round post. Both attach at the same point, and the cast arms of the 300 loaders cover the end of the mount posts.

To carry this further, the 300CX lists as compatible with both the larger 4000-10's and 3000-20's. I'm assuming there may be some front attach differences, but am unsure.

My Dealer said go with the 430, He said I would be very happy going to the Bank with the extra $$ I just saved.
