Man, sorry to hear about the twins. It sounds like things are coming together.

2000 acres - your list of equipment on your tag line needs to be longer. :)

John (KB9UDE), sorry to hear about your twins, and congrats on marching forward. I also hope that your family keeps their farm, and we get more people going after owning and keeping farms, as the move towards Corporate farms seems to have hurt the US abvility to oproduce due to political and GOVT intervention. In the years when and prior to your GrandFather starting a family owned farm, the US did not import a lot of food products and that is the way it should have statyed. i so hope that at some point our country returns to that process of minimal importing of food. Plus it is one helluva of security gap having so much food and energy resource imported.

All these people whining about the Farm Bill. I tell ya - most people don't think about food supply. Imagine going into the grocery store and there is nothing there. It is a matter of national security in my opinion.

I tell ya on the family ranch thing - estate planning is key. Trusts, insurance to cover estate taxes, etc, etc. Most farms get broken up out of the requirement to pay a load of estate taxes that might have been avoided.

Local legislation can be a big benefit too! In my town we pressed for and passed local ordinances that farming/agricultural activities are an accepted activity. The sounds, smells, activities, equipment etc. to facilitate those activities is protected by ordinance.
My great-grandfather had a large farm, and I've always had a great admiration for those keeping it alive. I hope and wish that in retirement I am able to get into farming in a small way.

TBN does not allow enough letters in the signature line for me to list all the equipment the farm owns. All I have listed is the equipment currently stored at my home. We have a large array of JD equipment on the farm.

Congrats on the nu unit!

Thanks NURU

I understand you have a new cab tractor. I would have liked a 4120 cab, BUT... John Deere does not offer a Power Reverser option in a cab.:(

Your Welcome KB9UDE, yes and I think the 4000 series cab is more stable too. They are taller and larger than the 3000 series, but they definitely have a wider stance. I think on the 3000 series, Deere rasied the height of the tractor and reduced the axle width by 2 inches - on the rear, and that has made the units a bit more tippy. I went to the Turf specials I had on my 4310 and they made a ton of difference for stability. however, they measure 64" in width on the rear to the 66" on the rear for my former 4310. The only chnage made was the wheel rims and the 3000 series has 8 lugs on the rear versus 6 lugs on the 4310. If I had a bigger place (5 or more acres:D), I would have probably went for 4000 series Cab tractor. But who knows the future. I got a nephew looking at a 100 acres. Maybe he will sell me 10 in the future!

Is there anyone else here that likes the Power Reverser tranny?? I have read many posts from guys that like the Ehydro but I personnally do not care for it. It is better than the old style hydro that Deere offered but I am still not convinced it is the way to go. This will be my 3rd power reverser and I am loving it. JD 4500, JD 4120(2004), JD 4120(2008).

I am not downgrading the ehydro, I just don't like it for my application. I am sure it has its place in someones work.

I really prefer the e-hydro. I have the e-hydro on my 4720 and the power reverser on my 5525. The e-hyrdo is so easy for many jobs. I don't see how any job can't be easier with a PR vs. a E-hydro. With that being said - cruise is a must with e-hydro if you are doing large jobs.
