New 1700 tractor questions

Hi! I just picked up a '79 New Holland 1700 with loader to replace my 2n Ford. Been reading here to learn about the tractor as I don't have a manual yet. A couple of quick questions. How do I drain the steering box? I see a fill hole but no drain hole. How much lube goes in the front axle reduction housings? Does this tractor have a screen for the hydraulic fluid, if so where? I have read the steering box takes hyd. fluid, and I assume the reduction housings are gear oil, correct? If any one knows where I could locate a left foot board, I would appreciate it. Mike,

1- There is no drain hole in the steering box as you found out. I inspected mine although did not have any issue with it, so Topped it off with Ford 134 equivalent oil. You can take the adjustment nut on the right side of the box and remove 4 bolts to have access to the side. That would drain the oil. Since I did not any issues and no sign of moisture elected to leave it alone after some play adjustment.

2- Does it have screen. Look a the link below and you'll find more than you want to know.

3- Reduction uses the same NH-134 and not typical gear oil. I have 2 wheel drive so I don't know, don't overfill it though. look to see if there is a level hole. it does have a fill and drain.

4-use the right foot board and make or have someone make it out of scrap sheet steel and some 1/2 " angle iron or whatever you have, got to be a bit creative with these tractors.
