Willows are just like that I guess. Seems like they get too big too fast, and they always seem to have some sort of structural problem. The wood is just not strong enough for the size of the trees. Maybe since they can root from anything, it doesn't affect the ability of the species to survive if the trees fall down a lot!

The healthiest willow I ever saw was the one at my grandmas house. When they had it cut down, it was more than 60" in diameter , and had rings that were as much as 1" in width. The tree had been planted directly over the old septic settling tank, and had more nutrients than it knew what to do with!
