Good morning neighbors
I purchased property 10 ys ago from a mining co. The property used to be owned by current neighbors family. These people are so miserable & think they still own the place. I am curious about property line issues.
Any suggestions. I thought about erecting a fence but not in the budget.

:welcome:

Not sure the question, but sounds like you're unhappy with people on your property.

Best if you can get to know your neighbors, and for them to get to know you.

A turf war isn't be pretty. I didn't put up "no trespassing" signs like some do. I did let neighbors know that I would just like to know when they were going hunting on my property, and left a phone number for them to call. Had coon hunters and deer hunters that did let me know, but they soon tired of calling and just didn't come on the property any more.

Much better for them to understand (and like) you. Help them out when help is needed. Throw a neighborhood party, or just invite them over to your place. Stop and talk to them when you see them, as often as possible (even if it makes you late). Visit them often.

Maybe after 10 years, you are off on the wrong foot and these things are not possible anymore. :confused3:

I agree with beenthere, try and become friends with them and work out the property line differences. Fences only keep out honest people and legal action tends to irritate more than they help.

best of luck

It can be a problem when people think they can do as they have always have done on a property even after it has changed hands. I had some locals come park in my drive and proceed to go fish in my pond. I politely told them that we don't allow fishing on our pond and they , not so politely, told me that they have fished there all there life and I can't stop them. I ask them for their address so I could forward the property tax bill and the mortgage payment book to their house. That seemed to sink in a bit for them.

Mark...for years we have had the same problem with our pond and with hunters and being nice to these folks is not the answer. Call the Sheriff and insist on enforcement and sign a complaint for Trespassing...otherwise just give up and let them run over you...and that is not my style..

there is always two sides to every story[involving two people],maybe like they say, three sides. You'd need to give alot more info, before much could be said.

In rereading the original post it sounds like there may be several issues that come into play. You bought the property 10 years ago and I am guessing you do not reside there. That always makes it harder if you don't want trespassers.

If it is property line issues you are worried about,as in where is your line, then the short answer is a survey. Not the cheapest but the only legal way to be sure what is what. In most areas you can legally show possession by posting it. I prefer using signs that say "no entry without written permission". Seems less offensive to long time residents than "Keep Out". It also shows you know and maintain a known line if you ever had to go to court or a sheriff.

Almost impossible to keep trespassers out if you don't live there. Or at least that has been my experience. Give a little more detail about your problem.

For over 30 years I never set foot ont he 65 acres that ajoined our property that was owned by a man in another state...not even once. Decent law abiding people act that way....I know it is not my property and I stay off of it. I expect the same from others and anyone that ignores my posted signs goes to jail. I did not stock my pond for them to enjoy catching my fish. I do not mow the pastures so they can ride their 4 wheelers...see what I mean. You have to let folks know it is your property and you will defend it or else put it up for sale or live with tressapssers who will leave ruts in your pastures, steal your fish and game as well as leaving their garbage behind..We fought it and won but we still have to address the problem from time to time after all these years. There are some real low life people among us.

Sounds like the neighbor is the one who needs the shock collar

Any room for a nice hedge? I've used honeysuckle and lilac for cheap effective privacy that isn't overtly offensive.
Seeing less of each other may help things mellow out.

I had same deal years ago,I got this half bluetick half doberman pup,[male doberman got in the barn with a female bluetick, both purebreds, and nobody than wanted the pups],I called it a doetick, heck of a dog, big,no tail, blue on his chest and legs, ears wern't docked.

When he was about half grown my nieghbor was putting up hay next to us and his two big collie type dogs chewed my doetick up pretty good,I didn't say a word to my neighbor, well, might half been a couple years later, doetick is now able to kill a big ground hog with one shake, same thing, neighbor cutting hay with his now older dogs,my doetick had a fine time with them, they was running for their lives after awhile, neighbor didn't say a word either. It was a dog thing only.
