One thing I was wondering about is what happens when a house sits empty and unfinished for several years. When I drive by I can see that the stud walls are up but no sheet rock is in. I do know that he has electricity to the house cause he has outside lights on at night. I wonder if the heating system is in? On the back side of out hill there was a house that sat empty and the mold grew so bad that they had to tear it down. That would make you cry.

Jim, You seem pretty well in touch with your neighborhood. My wife is amazed that I know that so and so is married to so in so and his mom owns this and that business... The guy that used to live next me knew everybody and everything they were up to. I really miss him. I feel like I don't know even half of what's going on any more. You can talk about women gossiping but guys can be pretty good at it too.:D :D :D

We have a neighbor down the road had 2 house trailers on their land. Our county says you can only have one trailer on a lot and it has to be at least one acre to put a house trailer on it. They had these 2 trailers on their land for quite some time and all the sudden the county gave them 90 days to get rid of one of them. The second trailer was for storage so now they have brought in a bunch of old run down buildings on skids and put all the stuff from the 2nd trailer in them. Now they are breaking no county codes but the place looks 10 times worse and the county gets no property tax from the storage buildings like they did the 2nd house trailer. Now all the neighbors are upset with the way the place looks. They did their homework and found out that in our county a storage shed on skids under a 120 square foot can not be taxed. There is no limit to how many of them you can own either. They really have pulled one over on the county but made a lot of the neighbors mad in the process. Since I am not interested in selling my home and don't see it happening in the future I really don't care what they do maybe my taxes will go down LOL.

I forgot about that.
1*We get the standard perk test and installation inspection, and then see ya. They'll never come back.
2* I've seen people have septic troubles and run a 4" line down in the woods. Nobody checks unless it runs on somebody else and they gripe.
1*Yep / Know what you mean. My septic was installed in 1971 .
Hain't seen em since.
2*I believe this cause I did it for a guy back in the early seventies.
Doug the hole dropped in the tank & ran a 4'' plastic pipe and let it drain into a hollow.
No permit and no Perk test.
That's probably How I'd do it today too if I lived out in the country instead of right along a state highway only 4.5 miles from the county court house,

Well, it's hard for me to imagine how nice life would be without intrusion from my friendly county government.

A few days back I was making a gag for my next door neighbor who is building a small shed and, er, elected not to 'ask permission/pay fees'. So I created a Building Permit Violation notice to stick on the shed for laughs.

To make it realistic I visited our county building and planning web site. Looking for realistic code numbers and language and such. These are the folks who issue building permits. The site visit went beyond my wildest dreams when I found out that I had to get a building permit to replace a worn out hot water heater.

I told my wife that I was going to go down there to apply for a permit to fix our leaking faucet.

Can you even believe this???

Think I'm exaggerating? Here's the quote at their site:

If you have a small project, like a replacement water heater or adding a new roof to an existing residence, you may be able to get your permit online. Go to our E-Permits page to find out.

So anyway it's nice to hear that a few of you guys live where a degree of sanity pervails.

1*This may be in violation of federal law.
2*My county tried to pull something similar to this on me several years ago.
I had an attorney send them a little note. That was the end of that never heard another peep out of them after that.
3*
4*So what's your beef - anything is better than a trailer rite!
5*I don't see where they have anything to complain about after all the mind set of those predigest against mobil homes is anything is better than a mobile home.
The got what they wanted/the trailer removed so they just need to cool it.
Sorry I just can't muster any sympathy for them.
6*The county is in error on this as there is no size limitation.
To be taxed as real estate it must be real estate.
Anything on skids is not attached to real estate and therefore isn't legally real-estate; size has not a thing to do with it.
7*Great I applaud them. At least they didn't let that county screw them like my county screwed me for years on my storage building.
The neighbors have nothing to gripe about they got the trailer removed like they wanted so now they need to shut up about it.
