I'm new at this and am about to buy a new Kubota. Is the price that a dealership gives you negotiable or when they say this tractor is going to cost $25,900, that is what you have to pay? Just last week, I told a dealer here in NH that I was looking at a B3200HSD with loader and backhoe with $25,000 to spend. He said he could get me on it for that. I called back this week and he went to his office and said it was $25,900. Can that number be negotiated down like a car or is that price it?

EVERYTHING is negotiable.

For the most part buying a new tractor is just like buying a car or truck, you can negotiate and you may have to shop around for the best deal. What you pay in the end is going to depend a lot on how hard you want to work at it.

You need to contact Barlows with that price. At least that will let you know what a good price is.

Negotiate, negotiate, negotiate. I'd never tell them how much my budget is due to the fact that most salesmen will allow you to pay as much as you want to. Do your research and ask him to reduce his price (if possible) and stick to your guns. Give him your number and wait for a call. Time is on your side.

from what little information...I would guess that what he did was just tack on a nice commission...

Are you buying any attachments at the same time? (FEL and BH don't count)

I was told by a few others from MA that this was a pretty decent price. I will still try to knock $1,000 off. And no attachments, just the loader and backhoe.

There is always room to negotiate.

For that tractor setup, Barlows will probably quote you ~ $2000 over dealer cost (just to give you an idea of their bottom line).

Here in the NE they dont haggle. Its thier price or walk. It sucks. However with Barlows willing to deliver my next one is coming from them. They dont seem greedy not like the dealers up here

Whenever buying a car, tractor, or large purchase involving negotiation always ask to see the invoice and make an offer from that information.

I bought a new truck at invoice (the dealer has a 3% profit built in). My M7040 was purchased at 8% over invoice. The dealer figures it takes 7% to break even.
