I'm in need of some serious help here folks- we have moved to a new house- down sized, closer to town. Sunday evening my wife went to the old house to bring the animals- two dogs and two cats. Well, three out of four isn't good enough! One cat is very shy, ok, very anti-social. I found him in a ceiling area Monday evening- flushed him but did not catch him. Tuesday we put out a live trap. The live trap has been used to catch racoons in a warehouse and is baited with tuna fish. As of this morning ( Wednesday ) the elusive feline is still at large.

Any help? Any ideas?

I'm concerned that the smell of the racoons may be causing a problem, but the guy is going to get hungry- right???

Thanks

We use live traps to catch coons all the time. I have no idea how many stray cats we have caught in those traps over the last couple years. If you cat gets hungry he will go into the trap or he will get hungry enough to just go to you or your wife. It is funny how friendly some animals can get when they are hungry:)

Yep...no cat likes change. He'll hide out 'till he's hungry and hopefully he'll make the trap or come out to visit.

The more you chase, the deeper he'll hide...and the longer it will take. We've been through this and have learned to get the difficult ones out way before the move happens; into the dog kennel or board somewhere. Best of luck.

I have used a trap to try to capture some wild piglets and coons.. have also got a few cats before. When he gets hungry.. he should be in there..

correct, the only food is in the trap. I have some canned cat food that will go in this evening. I talked with the local humane society- they said it may take 5 days before he gets hungry enough. I think the wife will not be happy with that news....
thanks for the replies, I will keep you posted.

You mentioned the trap had raccoons in it ? wash the trap and dry it out real good and then try it, the cat can smell the raccoon in the trap
use a vinegar and water mixture and rinse real good

I'm beginning to feel like the guy in Caddyshack- the animal is winning! He visited the trap yesterday early- it didn't trip properly ( homemade trap ) so I borrowed a Hav-a-Hart from a local animal rescue group. Fresh canned cat food is in it since late yesterday, no puddy-cat yet! Tomorrow is my luck day....I hope....
