Need to thin my corn

Had some help this year planting my garden. Trying to help some friends learn. All comes with a price eh? Anyway, I need to thin my corn a bit. Question is do I pull em or just snip em off? Reason I say snip is because I don't want to disturb the soil. Had some blow down in the past. Tell me what you think. Thanks guys

I need to put down more seed than I need because my dog eats the corn seeds before I cover them. Never saw a heeler in corn rows before.
