Id probably just run PT 2x4 between the posts then screw the sign to that. Might look a bit crude though.
What about some PT 4x4 between the posts. Use angle brackets to bolt the 4x4 to the vertical posts. You can use those white PVC slip over covers to cover the 4x4's and make it look more finished Shop Plastival 4-in x 4-in x 8-ft 4-in Universal PVC Post Sleeve at Lowes.com . Then screw the sign to the PVC covered 4x4.
