Quickdraw, I got 13.5 hrs of mowing/chipping plus he provided a helper with a chainsaw for $1080. Two days on site. You make a good point. Its hard to determine the value unless you ,also, know how many acres were cleared. I am guessing, very rough, about 5 acres were mowed for $1k and most of the trees over 6" in diameter were left standing.
The lowest estimate I could get for a mulcher/bobcat180 was $250hr plus travel time. I have no idea what a flail mulcher/bobcat 180 rig could have achieved on my property for $1k. His trailer time was over $200,so in order for the mulcher estimate to be competitive or superior to the rotary cutter, the mulcher/bobcat would have had to perform the same work in less than 4hrs on site as opposed to the 13.5 hrs I received from the rotary.
I did get some estimates for larger and faster mulchers, but their estimates would have easily bumped me out of my $1k budget regardless of their value. Minimum hrs to contract exceeded $1k.
