I had no flow on the outlet of the fuel tank on my 2360. After blowing compressed air into the tank from the lower fuel filter, I cleared the obstruction but want to use something to loosen and clear the gunk. I know the tank is plastic so I don't want to use Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) since it can be detrimental to plastics. Any recommendations as to what type of cleaner I should use on the tank? Will kerosene help?

Kerosene and diesel are similar but kerosene is slightly better as a solvent so... It can't hurt to to try that first. MEK is much more effective as a solvent and left to itself, can be hard on 'soft' plastics. That said it could work fine as a flush as it will tend to flash off and/or be washed by the diesel anyways.

I would try some Sea Foam. It's a miracle addictive that works with both diesel and gas. You can buy a can for about $9.00. It also cleans the injectors on diesels as well as taming gunk.

I've cleaned three fuel tanks using the method outlined below on compact tractors and riding lawn mower to ensure they are clean. The riding mower was the worse as it had leaves and other crap in it (bugs, twigs, etc..). Besides miscellaneous debris in the diesel tractors, algae can also be a problem.

1. Drain fuel (If possible)
2. Remove fuel cell (if unable to drain earlier, agitate fuel before pouring out the filler inlet.)
3. Clean inside of tank using Castrol Royal Purple or equivalent cleaner. Shake around and let it set for a while.
4. Rinse with a hose including to flush from the fuel delivery port
5. Let dry (Warm sunny day helps)
6. Put a bit of fresh fuel in the tank, slosh around, drain and dispose of fuel. If there is any soap/water residue hopefully this helps remove before refilling.

Use fresh new fuel when refilling.

Yes, it is over kill. But I'm reassured that the tank is 100% clean.
