I need a tiller for my new JD2210. Any recommendations on size and brand would be appreciated.

willer65,

I'm using a 60" Farm King (Buhler) tiller. It is build very strong. I'm using the tiller on my 4110 which has 17 PTO HP. So far I haven't been in a situation were the tractor runs out of "steam". I think Buhler has some smaller tiller models also available. Check there web site at http://www.buhler.com/sitefiles/product/compact_imp/misc/rotary_tiller.htm

I bought the frontier 42" (RT 1140) tiller when I got my 2210. I wanted a small tiller so I could get in to some smaller landscaping beds that needed preparation, and for a vegetable garden. It's turned out to be good size for my needs.
One note thogh, After the first time using it, I bent the lower three point arms a little. The bending was caused by improper assembly by the dealer and that the PTO shaft was too long. The dealer had mounted the arms so they were extended out too far, So when I hit some rocks it bottomed-out the PTO shaft, and bent the arms. I was able to bend them back in to shape on a press. I cut down the shaft and re-assembled the mounting frame as per the assembly instructions, and now it works better than ever. I just tilled my new vegetable garden with it with no problems whatsoever.

Do you use your 42" tiller offset to one side?

I have not yet set up the tiller for offset. To my best recollection, the manual is not clear about setting up this particular model for offset. That said, I have looked at it and I don't see any reason I can't do it. All of the mounting holes are there, and the 90 deg. gearbox rides on a hexagonal shaft so it will slide. I am seriously considering offsetting it, as it will be difficult to till close to the fence that I am putting around the garden plot.

I use a Caroni tiller, 50" or 48" can't recall which, with a clutch(a must) on my 4100. Never had a problemwith it, I have it offset to the right. I think it ran about $850 at Agri-Supply
