I have a 14hp diesel kubota, its a fairly small 48" cut mower. Its been running great since I bought it. It was used with about 1200 hours on it. I used it just two weeks ago and it ran great. Now when I went to mow today it ran for about 5 minutes and suddenly quit. I went ahead and filled up the tank even though it wasnt empty just to be sure. The manual says to turn it to the on position and turn the two fuel bleed screws and let the air bubbles out. Less than a drop of fuel came out and that was it. The only thing I can think of is the fuel filters need changing. If i restart it, it runs for about 10 seconds and quits.

My lawn is getting very tall...

That would be the best place to start, change the fuel filters. If they are clogged they can cause the problem you are describing.

Like Diesel power,
Do the filter change and keep us posted. I think you'll be alright..

I found a place locally that sells Kubota parts, im going to swing by there tommorrow during lunch. Hopefully they will have the two filters in stock.

When I open those two bleeders screws shouldnt fuel flow out of them? It trickled on drop and that was it.

I had the same problem on my Ford 1300 and it was something in the bottom of the fuel tank that blocked the line where it came out. Also check the line from the tank to the fuel filter. I would turn off the shut off valve and take the fuel filter out and turn on the shut off valve to see if fuel is flowing or if it is restricted. Good luck

While the filter is removed see how the fuel runs out of the tank. It could be that you have some junk in the bottom of the tank giving you this problem.

Wth most tanks being filled out of five gallon cans a lot of dirt and debris can wind up in your tank.

this sounds like a blockage in the fuel line...not the filters. like others have said, look where the line comes out of the tank.

On my former B6100 there were two bleed screws on the filter housing, one before the filter and one after. If you don't get a flow from at least one of them then something is blocking the outlet of the tank or the fuel hose from the tank is plugged.

I replaced the filters and im still not getting any fuel to come out of the bleeder valves. Im going to have to get something to pump the fuel out of the tank because its completely full. Its really hard to get to the tank on this thing.

When I turn the key to the on position I cant feel or hear the fuel pump running. Could the fuel pump be bad?

Two suggestions.
1. Make sure the gas cap vent isn't clogged creating a vacuum in the line when gas is used.
2. Make some suck/blow attachment to the gas fill and try to unclog the outlet. (I am thinking something made from styrofoam crushed down over the cap opening with a straw thru it.)make sure the hose end is open to allow fuel to spurt back and forth.

You did not give the model of your tractor but this might help. The early small Kubotas did not have a fuel pump. They were gravity fed to the injection pump where there is a third bleed screw. It sounds very much like a problem in the tank or that first hose.

I appreciate all the help, im an idiot when it comes to diesel engines.

The tractor is a kubota g5200. 14hp. I think its around an 89 model. Theres a piece that look like a pump just after the prefilter, it has electric wires running from it.

i would check the tank side first. you can siphon the fuel out then look for blockage either at the bottom of the tank or in the fuel line that goes to the filter.

I got the tank out and check the line from the tank to the fuel pump. Its clear. I think the fuel pump is dead. My question is should it be pumping diesel to the front when the key is in the on position? I unhooked the line at the front of the fuel filter near the engine, turned the key to the on position and nothing came out!

Not a mechanic by any means but the fuel pump? in the picture looks like where the problem was on a grey market excavator. It actually had a filter in it. We were unable to locate a replacement element but cleaned it and cured the problem.

I think what your calling the fuel pump is actually the fuel solenoid. Pull hose off going into it, splice it to the hose going out of it, and see if unit will run.

Im almost positive that parts the fuel pump. I think the solenoid is the black box on top of it. The manual doesnt point it out directly, but does talk about keeping the prefilter clean so the pump doesnt clog up. I held onto it while turning the tractor on and i get no vibration or anything. If the pump is cheap enough ill just replace the whole thing.

can you test the wires for voltage?

Im going to run this afternoon and get a voltmeter and check that first.

The new pump is $77 which isnt too bad.

I had a B-6000 with an electric fuel pump. The only problem I ever had with it was the fuse holder got wet and started to corrode. Pulled the fuse, cleaned it off and I was good to go. Checking voltage at the pump is the best suggestion so far!

Good luck,

Gary
