Need some things for a conversion

Power a bush hog gear box from the stumpjumper side and you probably have just what you need. Most are gear reduction, and you need the opposite, so just power in the output side and put a pulley on the input side. Might take a right angle bracket welded or bolted to allow mounting. Oil level also might be interesting to check, unless you plan on turning it on it's nose when you need to check the fluid level.
I am sure there are other gearboxes, this one just came to mind.

Hydraulic decks seem to be in demand, as I am also thinking of one to mount in place of the 5 reel mowers on a Jacobson I just purchased.

Most mid pto's are 2000 rpm. I did a conversion as you are looking at on a 72" mower only mine is permanent. I have a 1000 rpm rear pto so I only needed a 2:1 ratio to the gear box to get the speed needed. I tried a 3" and 7" pulley with double "B" belts and they would not hold the required horsepower. There was not enough wrap on the small pulley and it would smoke the belts quickly. I ended up with a syncronous cogged drive belt. It has worked flawlessly for 2 seasons now with no belt issues. Also check the rotation as I hd to flip the gearbox to get correct roation. The attached pictures do not show the detail but you will get the idea. Check your local bearing houses for components. The typical farm supply will not handle a wide variety of drive components.
