Need some suggestions, 425 quit while mowing

If I pour gas in carb. it will start and run.

Here is what I have done and checked.
New plugs , both are getting fire.
new fuel filter.
checked the short hose in the fuel tank, not cracked or split.
fuel pump is running.
pulled fuel line off at carb. fuel pump is putting out a good stream( 1/2 pt. in 7 sec.) that should be enough to at least idle.

has to be a blockage problem in the carb. does anyone know if it has a filter built into the carb? I would not think that it is a problem with the jets in the carb. or it would not run by just pouring gas in the carb.

I am not good with carbs.

I would pull the carb, remove the bowl and float. Clean the needle valve and carb with carb cleaner spray. Make sure all the passages are clean then reassemble carb and see what happens. Make sure the fuel shut off valve is working if so equipped on the bottom of the carb bowl. IFRC it pushes the float up which raises the needle valve and closes off the fuel. When the power is on it should pull the stylus or pin down allowing the float to move.

Since it runs when you pour gas in the carb I expect the opposite of what you mention. I suspect the needle valve and/or jets are blocked with trash.

Are you using ethanol? If so how old is the fuel? As jenkinsph stated a good cleaning will very likely solve the problem.

Fuel is fresh and do not use ethanol.

next step is to remove carb. and clean. I looked on e-bay for a carb rebuild kit for the 425, did not find anything.
I did not find any trash in the fuel filter, and this thing shut down while mowing. I will pull the carb. tomorrow .

Can the Timing delay module cause a problem like this?

You are using ethanol, all gas has up to 10% in it. That's enough to eat up seals.

I am in Tennessee, and we can buy gas with out ethanol. That is all I run in my small engines and gas tractors, and motorcycles.

I would not screw with the timing when it will run when you put gas in the carb. I would stick with cleaning the carb and put it back together first and see how it runs. These small carbs are not very complex and can be cleaned up quickly, take pictures as you go if you need to make sure you put everything back together correctly.

Follow up: ( I like it when people give a follow up so the rest of us can learn from their work.)

yesterday I took the carb. off and cleaned it, found it very clean inside and no blocked passages. Took the fuel shutoff solenoid off and tested it , and it was not working . I disabled the fuel solenoid, put it all back together and it fired up and runs good. I will be getting a new fuel solenoid, but for now it is running good. I am going to mow my yard for a test run, (about 3 hrs), before I take it back to the farm and put the front end loader back on.

I buy gas with no ethanol from the Conoco Station close to my house in Missouri. Dealer said to use it in small engines.
