Need Some Help

A friend of mine has a 2310. He just called & said his Tach sometime works & sometimes not. Any of you guys had this problem ?? What was the fix ?

He said his Tach is electric. Is there a sensor on the crank somewhere that sends a signal to the Tach for the RPMS ??
