You may also have damaged the pump running it continuously the way you have it hooked up. Since it is a .5 hp pump and someone sized the pump correctly I would think the well is less than 200 feet.

I'm coming in at the tail end of this thread and the problem is already solved. JD5210's statement about possible damage done to the pump due to the pump running continuously has me wondering if I'm wrecking one of the pumps by allowing it to run continuously. Static water level is 28' for me and the well produces 58 GPM. I actually have two pumps sharing the same well casing with a separation of 10' between them. One is for the house only with a pressure switch and pressure tank. The one feeding the pond is just that - to fill the pond. Not only to save a little money, I chose not to use a switch or pressure tank. My pond is approx an acre with 16 ft of depth running thru the center of it. My thought at the time(that does not necessarily mean I'm right), but I figured that if all I wanted was water, pressure not being a factor, and continuous running was better than the start/stop/start. Water temps up here are approx 46 degrees and any heat is dissipated immediately. Usually, in the spring and if the winter's snowfall was small, the level in the pond can drop several feet due to seepage and evaporation requiring the pump to run 2-3 weeks continuosly. Okay, long story short, am I missing an important item and if so, what is your recommendation.
