Need some advice for my trade-in tomorrow.

Hello!

I'm on here trying to get some one on one opinions for my trade-in I'll be considering tomorrow. I made this account just for this and don't plan on staying as active as most users do because I'm not into online communities.

Anyway,

I currently own a 2005 Toyota Tundra Crew Cab 4x4 V8 Limited Edition. I bought it brand new and it currently has 39,000 miles and is paid off. I've been looking at newer trucks lately, and have come to the conclusion of getting an Ford F250.

The F250 I'm trading my truck in for tomorrow is an 2010 FORD SUPER DUTY F-250 SRW XLT.

Mileage: 26,692 - 4x2.

Now the Ford dealership I'm going to tomorrow is just asking for a trade, not any extra $$$ as my truck is worth $18,000 and there currently pricing this truck at $24,000.

The carfax also shows that this truck has never encountered any kind of crash, and has EVER had a current problem.

Also this dealership is ran by the Ford company, not a third party company.


My questions...

Is this F250 a reliable truck?

Should I go through with the trade?

Would YOU go through with this?

Also opinions and thoughts... I just want to make sure I'm not going to regret this in the future. So please be honest and try not to be to bias with your response.

Depends.

I think more info is needed to even think about it....like:

- Do you need 4 wd where you are?

- Do you plan to tow anything with it?

- What do you plan to tow and how heavy

Another thing that may help..what is the motor/tranny combo in the 250? What about cab/bed configuration?

The 2010 only came with the Torque Shift auto tranny. Is it diesel or gas? Why do you want to trade a truck with 39,000 miles that is paid off?

No 4x4 in a diesel truck is a nightmare. Tons of power and heavy truck will get you stuck on wet grass. There is a reason they are so quick to trade. Your 4x4 Tundra is much more desirable than that particular 2 wheel drive truck is.

IF the Ford has the diesel, I would keep the Yota.. There are several years of Ford diesel that have a bad reputation.

The 2010 6.4L diesel does not have a bad reputation. From all reports has been a good motor. The early job 1, 2008 6.4L diesels had a few ECM, radiator and injector issues. They were fixed. The later 2008s - 2010s have had a very good reputation. The 6.0L diesels (especially the earlier years) are the ones known for issues. the 6.0L was from 1999-2007).
The latest generation (2011+), 6.2L diesel has been surprisingly good for reliability (new engine built by Ford).

For the OP, a 2 WD diesel pickup is a hard sell. Not many people want them. At the minimum, it should have limited slip rear differential for 2 WD.

Clean Carfax really doesn't mean anything. It could have been repaired by someone that doesn't report repairs

I would agree that the 2010 model 6.4 diesels don't have a bad reputation, but they don't have a good reputation either. While it is very unlikely to have problems, the fact that the 03 and 04 6.0s had problems and then the first 6.4s also had problems reflect on it, plus, the fuel mileage is pretty poor.
The 6.0L ran from mid 2003 to 2007, and the 03s and 04s had many more problems than the 05-07s. The 7.3L ran from 1994 to mid 2003, with a power increases in 1999 when the body style changed.
I don't know how the reliability of the new diesel has been, but it is 6.7L. Their new gas engine, not the diesel, is 6.2L.
