Here's where I am. I'm pretty familiar with the JD 5 series, especially the 10's and I know the later style 20's were pretty much the same as 10's, but with a larger cab. I know very very little about the 6 series and need some info on them. I'm needing a higher horse (80-100) tractor for baling. Right now I'm cutting and pulling a 468 baler with my 5410 JD and the baler is all that tractor wants. I have been contemplating getting a 5510/20 to bale with and just cut with the 5410. My question is would I be better off getting a 6 series instead of the biggest 5 series.

Also I would like to add that the reason I like the the 5410/20 and 5510/20 is because of that 4.5 Ltr. 4 cyl. I'm not interested in any of the smaller displacement engines. It's only my opinion, but it seems like the mid-late 90's up to the mis 2000's JD's were better with regards to major issues, so I would like to hear info about those model 6 series. Sorry to be long winded and scattered.

I suggest you go to TractorData.com - information on all makes and models of tractors and search some of the John Deere 6xxx series tractors. They started with 6X00, then 6X10, 6X20, 6X30. There were also 6X15 which were "economy versions of the 6X20 series. Missing things like right side steps, not as many lights, 100 series SCVs in stead of 200 or 300 series.

You could get a Creeper transmission piggy backed on the regular transmission, left hand or right hand PoweReverser, with Power Quad transmission, 540 PTO, 540/1000 PTO, MFWD.

These are full framed tractors bigger than the 5 series.
