:confused:I have a Ford 1600 and need to purchase a hay spear to move round bales. Can you give me some guidance please, as to what information I should be looking for regarding a 3 point hay spear for this tractor? Will it need additional weight on the front end for moving bales?

3 pt Lift capacity of a 1510 is1432 lbs. I bet you will need front weights but you can try lifting some without to see how it goes. Don't have any info on a 1600.

Twowillows, does your 1600 have a front-end loader? If it does not, you will surely need front weights to haul a round bale safely. Before I met my wife, she had a IH424 that could only lift a round bale if she had her son sit on the front of the hood. I'm pretty sure you'll be in a similar situation and need some front weights. Have you ever considered one of the buggies you pull like a trailer? They are a lot more expensive than a 3PH bale spear, but they will be very safe and you can pull them with a ball on your drawbar.

EDIT: Added a picture of one kind. This one sold for $500 used which is about what you'll pay for a new bale spear and weights. There are several types and new ones go for about $1500, but you might find one if you talk to some ag equipment dealers or online auctions/sales.
