Here's the pics as promised. I am struggling with #3 and #4 from the voltage regulator. I believe #4 went to the 12v side of the resistor and #3 went to the 6v/coil side of the resistor. 20171102_172214.jpg20171102_170435.jpg20171102_170421.jpg

I don't know why I am trying to throw you a life preserver :)
I guess since no one else is running to help you.

This is the three important pages from a very old book on your style alternator.

These images will be way too big for viewing on the forum and suggest you print each and then study.

You sure don't have the resistor wire shown in Fig D5 nor the indicator lamp.

You speak of a diode in a wire to or from the alternator. Not part of Delco's design but likely a home made hack to allow the engine to stop when you turn the key off.

Your plan forward seems most backward to me. You should be going to an auto wrecking yard and buying a 37.5 amp internally regulated alternator for $30 bucks and connecting it as a one wire setup.

Thank you so much for that information. I believe you are correct and I have #3 and #4 backwards. Here is an updated wiring diagram. This is what I will go with and i will let you know how it works out.20171103_100630_001.jpg

If you can wait until later today, when I have less nausea from the pain drugs, I will be able to think more clearly.
I think the ballast resistor should not be part of the alternator circuit.
Could you post a picture of the resistor and also of the diode you have previously mentioned.

Would hate for you to blow something and then have to get another regulator or alternator.

I can definitely hold off. I believe the ballast resistor will work in place of the idiot light/ resistance wire in the diagram you provided me. I know it was hooked up to the resistor originally. I can take a pic of the resistor and diode hopefully tonight depending on the weather.

Where is the Start Switch you had talked about?

If the resistor you have is a white ceramic one then it is for the coil and has nothing to do with the alternator and regulator.

Where is the diode in your wiring diagram?

This is a better wiring diagram than I got from my old book.

Note the use of two resistance wires. One 10 ohm and one 1.8 ohm.

I added some color to the wiring diagram to help me understand it better.
I did not use the colors on the wiring diagram itself as there is no way to mark a white wire on white paper

Do you have a multimeter ?

Ok here is the resistor. It is for the coil but the regulator was hooked up to the resistor before I took it all apart.

Here is the diode. It is on the wire labeled f from the alternator to f on the regulator.

Here are the pics. And I do have a multimeter. 20171104_122729.jpg20171104_122235.jpg20171104_122227.jpg20171104_122115.jpg
