My new (3.0 HRS) L4330 emits a loud whine from the transmission area when traveling in 4X4. In two wheel drive the noise is gone. My dealer says the unit needs to break in, then it will be quite. Has anyone else experienced this condition? My B7800 is quite as a mouse in 4X4. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I have a new 3430, I notice a little whine when the 4wd is engaged, but it's hardly noticeable. I just have a few hours on it also.

My L4330 also has a whine, not too loud, but I know I am in 4x4. Are you on pavement when you hear it, or in the dirt?

Dirt or pavement, doesn't matter. The sound is a shrill whine increasing and decreasing with the speed of the tractor. It's probably normal, but it is loud. My B7800 does not make this noise. I would expect better from Kubota. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It is possible that Kubota uses straight cut gears for the 4WD on the higher horsepower models. Straight cut, as opposed to helical, are somewhat stronger. the trade off is that they also emit more noise. If you've ever driven or ridden in an older muscle car with the Muncie "M-22 Rockcrusher" 4-speed you'll know what I mean. They used straight cut gears for strength and would howl pretty loud.
