Need Help With A Stihl Saw

/ Need Help With A Stihl Saw #11
I've seen whitish smoke from a chainsaw when bar oil gets on the muffler (as mentioned by others). I've also seen steam when cutting in damp conditions from rain or melting snow. You also could be burning some cobwebs that were in the muffler.

I've refurbished some 2-cycle machines that were gummed up in the cylinder exhaust port and/or muffler. Put some fresh gasoline with modern synthetic 2-cycle oil in these machines, and they will also smoke for a while. Synthetics like Stihl Ultra will clean the engine over time.

While you're at it, pull the spark arrestor and check for deposits. If dirty, clamp a corner with pliers or vise grips and burn off the deposits with a torch. Even a windproof grill lighter can get it red hot and burn off deposits.
