I have a 1980 model B7100HST-E. I just changed the hydro/trans fluid, a gasket and seal for the mid PTO, cleaned the screen on the bolt and changed the filter for the fluid. I then put new fluid in it and cranked it up. The tractor won't go into gear, either high or low and it does not make any noises. I've never had any problems with it not going into gear. The 3 point and the rear and mid PTOs work fine.
I tried bleeding the high pressure line thinking it may have air in it, but it still won't go into gear or move at all.
I would sure appreciate any ideas if anyone has any.

Thanks in advance.

What do you mean by "it wont go into gear?". Does the lever move? If the lever moves but the tractor won't, make sure the 4WD / 2WD lever isnt centralised in a neutral position.

Yes it goes into gear easily, but when I push the forward or rear pedals it won't do a thing.

Forgot to add, it's a 2WD.

It doesnt sound like you have done anything that should cause this problem, other than you have air or a blockage in the sump to HST pipe. (or youve got no oil in the tractor). A bit of air probably wouldnt totally immobilise you, but a blockage would, although its hard to imagine how simply removing and refitting the strainer could cause a blockage. And make sure theres no other levers that could be giving you a neutral. Sorry, thats about the limit of my suggestions.

In case you havent already got it, theres a parts manual here that shows all the pieces.

Think I would ask if the correct filter was installed and if it was defective. Does not sound like the charge pump is getting oil or is primed to supply oil to the Hydro.

I know that the manual says to let run for approx 10 minutes after changing hydro fluid before attempting to go forward or backward. I'm guessing this gives it plenty of time to bleed system before engaging the hydro.

I'm tending to agree with you David. How would I prime it?

I have seen this problem before on Hydro's and also on engines that loose prime if they were left without oil in them for a period of time after draining the fluid. In this case after looking at my B7100HST, I would remove the filter from the hydro and fill the filter with clean fluid and allow it to saturate the filter media, then before re-installing the filter fill the charge pump by adding fluid to the filter mount, this should allow the pump to create a suction and pick up fluid normal. After all is OK, re-check your fluid level.... hope this helps.. Good Luck..
