After 50 years of service my air compressor pump is in need of a rebuild! I guess all that sandblasting and grinding on the Unimog was just too much for the old girl. But there are no makers names or markings. Just a date cast right into it! (10-24-55) I need some help in identifying the pump to see if I can get parts to rebuild it. Right now it blows air out of the intake, so I guess it needs some valve work for one. And I know it needs a seal at the flywheel side. The flywheel is 14" in diameter. If anyone knows what make please, please let me know! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I hate to have to buy a new pump when all I need is a few parts to make this one right again. Thanks for all your help. Von

I don't know what make it is, but is there any way you can lap the valves? The seal shouldn't be a problem, you can measure the I.D. and O.D. and then look one up in a Chicago Rawhide catalog. You might end up needing rings, also, that might be why the seal started leaking. You can size up the rings and find replacements. That leaves the rods and mains, the mains stand a good chance of being ball or roller bearings and the rods might still be babbit with shims. If it isn't knocking the bearings probably don't need looking at, but if you decide to re- ring it make sure and keep track of any shims you might find under the rod caps. Don't mix up the valves, just this last Sunday I went through the valves on an old 10 H.P. three phase Quincy that hadn't worked right for years. Somebody had stuck the valves in the wrong holes and nobody could figure out why it took an hour to pump up. They thought the valves wouldn't interchange between holes, I ran my fingers through the ports and used a screwdriver to figure out which way the valves worked and got it to pumping a 50 PSI rise a minute. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sorry I can't ID the make for you. There is a gentleman on another forum that I read who is an avid collector/restorer of old engines and water pumps. If you get desperate for an answer, maybe you can send him an email. His name is Kevin Beitz. He lives in PA. Here is his webpage:

http://www.angelfire.com/pa/hittandmiss/index.html

and his email: kbeitz@pa.net

Check out his webpage. He has some very nice pictures of neat, old equipment.

I don't know the gentlemen but when you asked the question, he came to my mind.

Regards,
Duber

I ran across this site, it sounds like they have parts for just about anything and some of the personnel have been around long enough to be able to help you out.

Hey Von, did you ever get that compressor pump overhauled?

What was it? Mine looks EXACTLY like yours.

I am exactly in the same spot, after years mine only gets to 90 psi instead of 160, so I think somethings gone south in the valves of the high pressure head.

Thanks, Jiggs.

Just a note, the thread is almost 10 years old.
