Need help in New York

I work for a company that manufactors equipment for the oil and gas fields. I currently have a service man in Elmira New York and he is need of some steel. Does anyone know of a steel vendor in that area. I am sorry if this has nothing to do with the forum but would like to here from anyone in that area that might know of such a place.

Kind of funny you say that. I told him to go to Walmart when he called me last night!!!

After making about 30 call this morning I was able to find a place for him to get the channel he was in need of. I was kind of surprized on how many people would not help me out this morning on the phone. People told me to look in the phone book.......that would be fine if I had one for Elmira NY. Must be the cold up there making people grumpy!!

I'm glad you found your steel. It's amazing what's happened to the steel prices in the past few weeks. We buy a considerable amount of 316/304 SS and the prices have risen about 15% in the past month.

The word is that most of the steel is going to China for power plant construction. Due to all the growth over there, they're running short on power and are needing some additional generating plants.

I always sympathize with a field guy who's in a bind. I was a start-up and commissioning manager for an outfit that did oil/gas and power generation projects. I spent lots of time around the states and at the North Slope and Algeria overseeing gas production retrofits and plant construction. There's nothing worse then having a customer breathing down your neck, waiting for your equipment to come on-line.

I hope your guy got everything lined out.

Shoot, I'm sorry that I didn't see your post earlier. That's right in my neck of the woods. I don't know off hand where to get steel around here, but I could have looked it up in the phone book. Actually I probably know a couple of guys that could tell me for that matter. I happen to be the happy recipient of some of that natural gas money! Well, I'm glad your guy got what he needed.

They've been burning wells near us lately, and it sounds like a rocket engine (which it basically is). It's actually a little too noisy at night.

You know...if you only take a quick glance at his picture as I did, you MIGHT look at it and think he's wearing a large "S" on his chest...

I wonder if he's faster than a speeding bullet and able to leap off tall buildings...
