Need Help Identifying Ford Tractor

Hello To All,

I recently took possession of an older Ford tractor and I need help identifying exactly which year and model it is and determining its value for restoration.

Can anyone advise me if there is a VIN, engine plate, or identifyer (and its location on the frame or motor) that can help me determine what this tractor is? Also, if anyone knows an approximate value of this tractor in its current condition I would greatly appreciate any input.

I know that most for tractors had the model numbers and serial numbers stamped on the engine block on the right side of engine ( near air cleaner). Look for a flat spot, Might have to use a wire brush or slight sanding with sandpaper to remove rust and old paint to see numbers. I do know that most early Ford tractors of the 2n and 9N series only had three forward speeds on their transmissions.

Neat old tractor and I sure hope those back tires aren't rotted on the bottom as they have very good tread. I don't think the patent plate will help with the identification though. You will need to get the serial and model numbers. I'm not sure where they are on that tractor but someone will be along that can tell you. It appears to be one of the Ford "N" series Tractors. What it's worth will depend on many factors. Are any of the drive train parts or engine frozen up? Condition of the tires, and how complete it is. The old N series tractors are pretty common but remain popular so the value will also depend on what they bring in your area as this can vary a lot.

Looks like a 2N. Around here, worth about $700-800 if in good shape. Not too useful without position control and without live pto.

oval radius rods indicate a 2n 44 or later.

If it is a non runner.. I'd be hard pressed to give more than 500.. and would opt to pay more like 350...

Ol rusty tractor in the weeds ?--worth $500 tops. If the engine has to be rebuilt, the kit will cost between $500 and $1000. If those rear tires are rotted, figure another $500-1000 for new rubber. Figure worst case you'll have $2000-3500 invested in that rust pile to get it running.

I bought my 1951 MM BF for $1100 non-running because I really, really wanted that particular tractor for my collection. The engine had to be completely rebuilt--no compression on 3 of 4 cylinders ($800 parts, $800 labor). So far I have $3.3K invested in that project.

Unless you really want to rebuild that particular tractor, I'd say walk away and find a tractor in your price range that's running.

for 2500-3500$ you can get a good ford in the 55-64 years. 6xx/7xx/8xx/9xx models.. or a 4 cyl 2000/4000

and they wil be 2-3x more tractor than a 2n.. etc..

Long steel & cast iron are 9 & 10 cents a pound at the local yard this week. You do the math.
It is definitely a 2N or 9N and is Soundguy says it's a 1944 or later 2N, that's good enough for me.
The only serial number is stamped into the engine block, and if the block isn't original, the number is almost useless.
