Is there any advantage/disadvantage between these two models? The hp difference is only 5. Size is nearly identical (2000 weighs 165lbs more). Price is only $250 different. The 1610 has 3cyl. vs 2 on the 2000. 2000 is gear-drive, while 1610 is powershift trans. I've heard lots about the dependability of the 2000. How does the 1610 stack up? Thanks for any input.

( The hp difference is only 5 ) Or--the 2000 has 26% more HP. "Only 5" is a bit misleading. They are two different machines, with different advantages. A good dealer would explain the various advantages of each one as you looked at them.

The powershift trans is an option to give serious consideration for. It's almost like driving an automatic.

I do not think the 2000 is a syncromesh trans so yu need to complety stop the machine to change speeds without running the risk of breaking the trans. The power shift allows 3 foward gears without stoping and you can reverse but it is quite a jolt. The 5hp is on the pto and will effect mower size. Both will pull about the same. There is much more wheel hp than traction. I am a large guy and the 1610 is just too small for me. (main thing is my boots get tangeled in the petals on the foot rest and makes the tractor dangerous for me to operate). Get on and off and drive it with starts and stups and use the steering brakes and the diff lock to make sure that you do it with out hanging your toe in the clutch petal when you really need it now.

I like the power shift . You don't have to stop to change gears. just click the selector from 123 or reverse without clutching or stopping.

Comparing the 2000 and the 1610 is apples vs oranges. Physically the 2000 is bigger. Now if you were comparing the 1610 to a 1700, or the 2000 to a 2010 then that would be a level comparison. What do you want to do with the tractor?

It is very easy to get parts for a YM2000. Don't know much about the 1610.

Why just those two models? I would go with a powershift. I would then choose the size. I have a 2210 which I love. Alot of guys swear by 4 wheel drive. So you might consider that. As a rule you can do more with 4x4 in the same size tractor. If I were chosing today I would look the 20 series because they have power shift on the colum. I think that would be more comfortable but you get use to the powershift on the hump. You should also look at the newer FX series. Also look at which models have the best parts supply. 2000 and 1610 both have good parts supply. They are very popular. Fredricks has them all!

predominantly rotary cutting and finish mowing( on areas where a few tire marks are okay). I may do some box work, but it will be light work. My only concern is roll-over stability. I have some fairly steep hills in some places. I think I would want to fill the tires to help weigh the tractor down some. The acreage for cutting is about 4-5 acres.
