case IH 485
I am replacing a broken lift arm fork (earlier post) on my Case IH 485.
There is a large stainless nut that screws on to the arm. The nut slides up inside of the fork and is threaded on the arm from the top lift.
My question is: does this nut get captured between pin "A" and bolt "B"? Or... does the nut rest against bolt "B" at the bottom and slides up to a "stop" inside the fork itself?

It will fit captured between the A and B but will NOT go past the bolt all the way the inside of the fork to the "stop".

This should have been a simple job and has driven me NUTZ. I should have paid more attention to how is was together.

HELP ME OUT GUYS!!!

I'm looking at my parts book, and assume you're talking about the lift link that doesn't have the crank handle? The book doesn't show where the nut is captured. The owner's manual says that the lower arms should be level when the left link (the one you are working on) is one thread away from it's shortest length and the right link ( with the crank) has the groove in the shaft at the top of the yoke housing. Maybe you could position the nut in both positions and see if one way lines up correctly.

geneP,
Yes it is the left side. I got an answer from a local tractor guy. It is captured betwen the bolt and the pin. Otherwise it would have about 3"-5" of up and down slop in it before it actually started to raise the lift arm.
