Need assist with Pronovost P680 snowblower

Hi

I've only used this blower a few times. I was in deep, heavy, wet snow yesterday and backed over a shovel that I'd been using to clear the blower chute. The shovel jammed in the auger and probably sheared something. The PTO and blower drive shaft are turning but the auger isn't.

Trying to find a blow up (parts illustration) of the drive where it connects to the auger so that I can identify the part that I need to replace. This is a model P680 and is about 10 years old. I bought it used and have owned it about 3 years now.

Any help would be appreciated... Thanks.

I would think you should have just broke a shear pin. From what I can find online it looks like the shear pin is in the back near where the shaft connects to the chain on the backside of the blower.

Sorry, no diagram but if the PTO and blower shaft are turning then then shear bolt / pin that drives the shaft or shear bolt / pin at the augur chain drive gear has gone. Usually the PTO shear pin is the first to go unless its been replaced with something stronger.

Start at the gearbox and follow the shaft which goes to the side of the blower where the drive chain for the auger is. There will be a small sprocket at the end of the shaft which drives the chain and thus the auger. Connecting the sprocket to the shaft will be a shear bolt. Often it is a carriage bolt that will fit into a slot so you don't need two wrenches to tighten it.

The bolt will not be there now just a hole and slot for a carriage bolt to fit into.

This link to Home depot site shows what a carriage bolt looks like. They have a rounded head and a square section under the rounded head.
Carriage Bolts - Bolts - Fasteners - Hardware - The Home Depot.

Buy 6 shear bolts to have spares on hand. You don't need to go to a dealer as in almost every case the hardware store ones are fine. At worst the hardware ones are a bit softer but that means your blower will less likely be damaged blowing shovels.

You have a very high quality semi industrial blower with the Pronovost P680.

If you dont have a manual for it send them and email an they will help you get one.

Correct. It's often hard to see something (is wrong/broke) when it's not there. Like when a spring goes missing.

Conversely, sometimes it's hard to see something is wrong when the sheer bolt head (and nut) stay in place even though it's sheered off below sight and it still looks like a intact normal bolt. (Until you start turning things and only one of the two parts "bolted" together turns- "ahaa")
