Hopefully some of you can give me some advise. I just purchased a NH project tractor (1725 4WD) It shows 1600 hours and runs/operates good and everything works. It will be used for moving trailers around and with 3 point forks. The issue/issues are leaks, everywhere engine oil and hydraulic oil. I was told it sat unused for quite a while and assume some seals and gaskets have dried/shrunk causing the leaks. I have installed a new oil pan gasket and trans. output shaft (to the front drive shaft) seal. Also the plate on rear diff. that the drain plug threads into was leaking so I re-sealed it with "The Right Stuff". I have not run it yet but will in a day or to and fully expect it to leak elsewhere. Do you think I should split it and replace the rear main seal and or any others where it might leak? If so what exactly which ones. Of course I will check clutch condition if I do split it however the clutch is strong and smooth so I really don't feel the need to split it for that reason. I know I really need to run it to determine what else is leaking but would rather just do the work now. What do you experts think? Thanks Bullwinkle

There should be an inspection port for the clutch. There is a drain hole under the clutch as well. Look to see if the oil is in/around the clutch. If the rear main is leaking by all means fix it. If it is not leaking... well leave it alone. I would pressure wash/clean the tractor and then look for leaks as you use it. Fix what leaks the most.

OK thx. Sorry for the delay, I had a death in the family and am just now getting in the mood to work on the greasy thing. I did wipe off the transmission last night looked at it this morning. It seems to be weeping oil from the three stub shafts on the side of the housing that the 4x4, pto and range selector linkages attach to. Is there a seal/o-ring under the little plate? Surely they are not sealed on the inside of trans!
