have narrowed it down to Massey 1533 and Mahindra 3015.The Massey dealer is closer and more reliable but the tractor is lighter. Both at same price with loader !6,800--this is NE. The Massey has a telescoping 3 pt hitch, independent pto, is smaller and feels easier to tip. The Mahindra model is being discontinued and the dealer says he will charge $500 for 50 hour service which makes me think about other service. I have 60 acres, fields and woods. I know squat about tractors and I am a 60 year old female who is apparently having a late life tractor crisis. I am worried about being able to manage changing implements. The ground clearance on the Massey is only 10 inches to 13 on the Mahindra. Any advice would help.

From your profile, it is is hard to tell what you will be using your tractor for. Assuming that since you are in NE the contour of your land might be hilly. If this is the case, I would chose the Mahindra since it is a heavier tractor. My only drawback in your situation is that $500.00 seems quite too steep for a 50 hour service. I own a Kubota tractor and do all of the necessary service to it and it cost nowhere near $500.00 for a 50 hr. service. If you are planning to use your tractor for everyday chores, you might think about the MF. Although I have never driven one, I Have talked to people that have owned them and have heard very few complaints about them.

Tractor is for bush hogging around pasture. Level land around new barn and grading 1/2 mile driveway and then there are some woods trails that need clearing. Land is hilly, rocky and stumpy. I thought heavier would be better but I am worried about service with the heavier tractor. What should a 50 hour service cost?

The 50 hour service should be less than half what he is quoting. The 3015 is a great tractor, but it needs to be sold by a great dealer as well. I normally push the Mahindra line, especially the 15 series, but the $500 quote for s simple service has me scared a little about your dealer. You might want to ask for clarification on that as it sounds like an error. Both the Massey and the Mahindra are good machines.

I was rather pleased with what I saw of the Massey. However, as you state, and as I like, the weight of the Mahindra would serve you better in my opinion.

However, as has been said, the service is too high. It's normally around $250 or less, and there's no reason that a Mahindra service should cost anywhere near that amount.

My suggestion is that the model at which you're looking is a good Mahindra model, but I'd find another dealer to "deal" with.

When you get the tractor, I'd also suggest you buy Pat's EZ change to go on your 3pt hitch, it will make it much easier to hook up your implements.
