Buying Advice Need advice on McCormick Deering/Farmall Cub

/ Need advice on McCormick Deering/Farmall Cub #11
I will see what I have at the house. I have a whole drawer full of IHC stuff. My brother-in-law had the block for his Cub machined and then rebuilt. He had around $1500 into the engine.

IHC did make most of their own motors. The Cub was built in Louisville I am almost certain. I think the plant was retooled like three times. The machinery wore out because they made so many Cubs! I think the last Cubs rolled out in the late 70's. I remember seeing them at the dealer when I was little. IHC farmed out their small tractors to Mitsubishi not too long afterward.
The A, B and C all share pretty much the same engine. IHC put Perkins diesels in some models, though I don't recall which ones off hand. I am certain of the Continentals in the Cubs though. Valu-Bilt Check out these guys for used and rebuilt parts. They used to be called Farm Family Center. Should you need a rebuild, you might try a block exchange rather than trying to find a machine shop locally. It depends upon what you have available. The guy that did my brother-in-law's did a nice job, but not inexpensive.

One other thing: The Super A also has a 4spd a little bit bigger tires twin-touch hydraulics and allot of parts synonomous with the B and C. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The Super A is just enough bigger than the Cub to be much more stable. The Cub makes a nice cultivating tractor, but I don't think I would want to depend on it for much more than that.

What is your intended use? I have a 1949 Farmall Cub that I am restoring and will use it only for cultivation and shows. This tractor will only go up in value! Neither tractor you are looking at is going to run circles around the other. The older one is more of an antique, so to me is more valuable. According to your discription, it is in a little better shape and has some useful attachments.- make a list of each tractors pros and cons and see which tractor has most pros on the list. If you put it on paper, sometimes the correct choice for you is easier to see! Good luck! Ken
