Oliver 550
Dear Tractor enthusiasts:

My wife and I bought some land and inherited a 1958 Oliver 550 diesel. It used to run well but recently developed some sort of engine problem and lacks compression. I am not prepared for an overhaul and wonder what would be a reasonable price for this tractor to sell as an overhaul project or as a parts (salvage) tractor? I know that scrap price is ca. $400, but it seems such a shame to just scrap this thing!

Any thoughts on this would be very much appreciated!

The 550 Oliver is a nice loader tractor when so equipped. Friend bought one that set for years because the front left axle had been repaired by welding. He pulled in some favors from a guy with a machine shop and fabbed the vertical shaft that was needed. Sold for 4300 at his auction without the front loader. Guy that bought the front loader for 600 has been trying to sell for 1000 for over a year. A shame to break them up after 50 years but no time to put them together with moving. Find a Oliver site and quote a price or best offer. Sell as a whole and let someone else part it out. Rims ,steering ,manifolds and original gauges are all sought after.
