I believe my Cub has cut its last blade today. Looking for recommendations for a quality lawn tractor. I do not need the big bad garden tractor, all I do is cvut grass with it. I have about 1 acre and do have an area of incline. My cub (LT 1042) has lasted 9 years and 200 hours. What should I look at?

My 42" Craftsman HST was purchased in 2003 and has been used to cut grass at three properties all year and every year since new; it has almost 800 hours on it... One is small, a quarter acre. Other two are almost two acres each. All have hills.

Got a cut completed on two of the properties this year, then when engaging the blades, the idler pulley pulled out of the deck due to age/rust. Everything else on the tractor is solid and runs well. A new deck was just delivered for a bit over $200.

Take it as a recommendation if you want. This one has treated me well, I like it, and I would buy another like it if available and needed.

well. Maybe I am jumping the gun and just need to find someone to help me with the motor. It is a 19 horse Kohler and all of a sudden it just started sputtering and shut down. I have compression, spark and fuel. Does not even try to start, just spins over like a car that has jumped time. Can these motors jump time?

I have had really good luck with Husqvarna products, I bought an Ariens HST for my mother back in 2010 from HD and it's going very strong. IMG_7350.JPG

I personally have a Husqvarna older GT 24hp with 54in deck, it cuts great.

Husqvarna makes lawn tractors for many companies and I like them a lot, the steering gears have a zerks as well as the outer hubs, inner spindles on the front suspension and all the spindles on the deck has a grease zerk, the Ariens has 7 zerks being it's a 2 blade and mine has 8 with 3 deck blades.

Also I just bought a new set of blades for my husky off Amazon for $32 delivered to my front door and there made in the USA. The Ariens has lifetime blades, they send my mother a new set of blades every two years and I throw them on, usually by that time the blades aren't worth sharpening, she sucks up a lot of rocks and sticks down there.

For an acre I would look at something like that Ariens, I'm a fan of the Kholer over the B&S like what's in my GT but there both decent.

Absolutely stay away from a MTD made mower, it won't last under the best conditions, and stay away from the D line of JD, if you buy green make sure it has a X in front of its name x300-x700.

As far as I know there is just a key in a keyway on the shaft that maintains timing. Any adjustment is done on the magneto. I tend to stick with briggs for my small engines, so this is all a guess.

I have a new Husqvarna and my mother has a new Ariens, both of them have B&S engines, they both have starting issues, choke related and the fuel is bad around here. I came from a John Deere 318 so I feel all the new mowers are kinda junky but that's what you get for $1,500-$2,400..

I am thinking I must have sheared the keyway. I pulled the air cleaner off and turned it over and the popping I was hearing was it backfiring through the carb. If thats all that wrong, I don't need a new tractor after all
