Need a little help on Hydraulics for a 3 Point Log Splitter

Worked on the unit over the weekend.

My results in pics... it says inlet and outlet to and from splitter....but I mean the new valve on the splitter.

So the outlet of the pump within the BX25-D is the black hose (about 1 foot long) that either goes to the backhoe, or when the backhoe is removed, it goes to the multiple piped valve on the right under the seat. It then runs the 3point hitch arms, the FEL, and the underbelly carriage.

I tried the old valve, and it stalled very easily, and was extremely slow....even at 2500 RPM.
SO I changed to the new valve, and it now extends very quickly just like advertised. Retract is still slow, but I can tolerate that for now.

One more question
Could I add one of these, to avoid switching the QC each time between feeding the inlet of the Prince Valve

Perhaps I can help.

Your hyd system is an open center hyd system, and the log splitter should have a open center valve on it to work correctly.

If your valve has two lines, the PB out of the tractor should be connected to the IN port on the log splitter valve.

The log splitter return line should go to tank/return line. Like your capped return line

All PB pressure lines can handle the pressure developed by the pump and hyd components, and connect from valve to valve in a series configuration.

The loop is the PB feeding the 3pt.

The return pipe with a cap, is for a return flow like from a log splitter or a BH.

If your log splitter has three hoses or outlets, the log splitter PB line would go to the 3pt in port, and provide all functions including 3pt.

Option 1,

and I don't recommend this, but if the log splitter valve has two hoses, the return could go to the port for the 3pt and provide a complete path..

The only problem with this is that the log splitter OUT port is not designed for high pressure, and by routing the flow through the series hyd circuit, the log splitter OUT port could see up to 2500 psi. If you simply want to position the log splitter, you can probably get away with the configuration.

When you remove the log splitter, re-connect the loop hose.

You say that you only have 3.7 GPM pump flow.

You would benefit using this valve made by Prince. LSR-3060

TYPICAL PERFORMANCE with a 3 GPM pump, and a 4" bore cylinder with a 2" rod:

Rapid-Extend speed: 3.7" per sec. (24" in 6.5 sec!) Full bore speed: .92" per sec.
Rapid-Extend force: 7,850 lbs @2,500 PSI Full bore force: 31,400 lbs
Retract speed: 1.22" per

The valve on my backhoe has three hoses marked, "Power Beyond", "Pressure" and "Tank". The valve on my 3 Pt. Hitch Splitfire wood splitter has two hoses (In and Out). What two ports should I use for the woodsplitter? Instinct tells me to disconnect the loop hose on the back of the tractor and insert the woodsplitter valve in that loop?

Go back to my original posts in this thread. I set my homemade splitter up with a PB capable splitter valve so have 3 hoses going to it same as the BH and connected identical to the BH. When replying to the OP I failed to recommend that he research his splitter vale as it may have been capable of adding the PB plug and a new PB hose to that port on the tractor. That should be your first step. If it is an open center valve the PB mod is probably available. As I often say "KISS".

Yeah....I would like to do this without replacing the valve that is currently on the splitter if I can.

Most name brand open center valves can be fitted with a PB kit. If there is another outlet that is plugged, that is probably the PB port and is where the PB plug is inserted. The kits are cheap when available. You have to know the brand and model and a simple call to the manufacturer customer service or technical desk will answer that. Your hydraulic shop should be able to help also. If you buy a new valve get one designed for log splitter low flow service. A high flow valve will not work as smoothly. Stay from dealer shops unless you want to pay double. I am one of those guys that does what is proper and stay from work arounds, sometimes in the end they can cost more than getting the proper functioning valve. Its only $.
