Need a lawn mower.....

Selling my 72" RFM for my tractor and I need something to mow the lawn going forward. My tractor is just too heavy and taking the backhoe off to cut the grass is just crazy.

So...If a guy had around 3K to spend on a lawn mower, what should he get? The lawn is fairly smooth and I will mow about 2 acres....lot of grass. I wish I still owned my BX2200, but I don't.

Jim, Hi Are you looking at conventional style mowers or maybe a residental ZTR type mower? I've seen a cub cadet ZTR at lowes with 52" cut 22hp for like $2999.

Or Cub Cadets conventional style lawn tractor with a 50" cut 26hp hydro for $1999. Lowes also has the Husqvarna mowers up to 54" 25hp for like $2699. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Am I allowed to say I have a 1996 Simplicity Sovereign with a 48" mower deck, snow blower, snow/dirt blade (full hyd. lift for all implements...), rear filled tires in excellent condition? A bit of a drive from VT but who knows. Price is within reason.

I wonder if the Lowes / Tractor Supply / Home Depot type machine (JD, Cub) are made in a "special factory". I've found that items of various kinds take a slide for the worse when they are marketed though any of these big chains. It's the little stuff, but it all adds up to a product that has the same name, but isn't what you thought you were getting.

Jim, go to TSC and check out their Huskee LT/GT's. You'll get a real nice machine and your not going to break the bank. MTD makes A LOT of badges out there today. Go buy what YOU like but don't buy it by the badge name alone. Gerard

Jim, Well yes your retail stores do have the entry level units that let you say " yeah I got a John Deere " UUNHeH!
But we were working with in a Budget?

I think if I were you, I would look hard at the Cub Cadet 2000 series mowers. I would purchase from a local dealer. These units have good features, heavy duty deck, cast iron front axel, cruise control on the hydro and such. They are a very good unit. My mother mows 2.5 acres with one every week of the summer and it holds up well.

Most of the products found at discount stores are made by MTD. Troy Bilt, Cub Cadet, White, Huskee, Yard Man are just a few of the names. I own a Troy Bilt made by MTD and I will not make the MTD mistake ever again. Go to MTD website and look how many product names they now own.

Consider the JD L130. These machines are available at your local dealer and are built well.No they are not the high end mowers but its a price thing and they are equaled by few in same class and price range. Very comfotable and easy to operate, the "edge" deck leaves a great finish.
